On your next visit to Dublin, pick up a copy of our Map & Guide............available in 100 locations throughout the capital..............
We have had plenty of experience travelling to other countries and we know only too well how disorientating airports can be when you collect you luggage and make your way into the arrivals hall and so we are writing this with you in mind and hope it proves helpful and for an overview of maps and zones follow this link - Maps & Zones.
The airport is approximately 9.5 km (6 miles) from the city centre. It is a busy airport with over 20 million passengers passing through in a year. Dublin Airport has only one terminal and is not large compared to airports of other capital cities. It has a number of floors with arrivals on the ground floor and departures on the first. The arrivals hall has two bars so if you have arranged to meet your friend in the bar make sure they are aware there are two on the arrivals floor. One of the bars is next to tourist information across to your left as you come out into arrivals. Airport information is straight across from you with the car hire companies and the other bar across to your right. There is a bureau de change both on the arrival and departure floors and a number of other restaurants, shops and a bar on the Mezzanine level (second floor). You have a number of options to get to the city centre either by taxi or one of the several bus services.

Trains from the Airport

There is no rail service to the airport with the two main train stations Connolly and Hueston being in the city centre although there is bus link to the dart line that runs along the east coast of the city, although we recommend the bus services if you wish to go to the city centre.

Taxis form the Airport

The taxi rank is directly out the door to your right and there is normally a sufficient amount of taxis to take you wherever you want to go. Taxi fare into town is approx 20 to 25 euro with a journey time of 20 – 25 minutes but allow up to 50 minutes during rush hours which in Dublin are 8am - 9.30am and 5pm - 6.30pm. Also if you are getting a taxi back to the airport allow up to 30 minutes during these times for your taxi to arrive if you have not pre-booked one. Taxis run on a meter service based on time and/or distance and from September 2006 there is a national taxi fare system - Taxi Fares

Buses from the Airport

Important
All regular Dublin Bus services have an auto fare system that does not accept notes,
Only coins are accepted and the machine does not give change so try to have exact fare. The driver does not handle cash so there is no way around this system.

Dublin Bus runs numerous services to and from the airport with the Airlink service, numbers 747 and 748, offering an express service in and out of the city with an estimated journey time of 30-35 minutes although you should allow at least an hour during rush hours which in Dublin are 8am - 9.30am and 5pm - 6.30pm.

The cost of this is €5 per person and €2 for children with the first Bus at 5.45 am and the last at 11.30pm. The bus stop is directly out the door to the left:

747 goes via O’Connell street (the capitals main street) terminating at Busaras (the central bus station) which stands opposite Connolly train station

748 goes via Busaras and on to Hueston train station. Allow an extra 10 to 15 minutes between Busaras and Hueston and at least 30 minutes during rush hours.

There are also regular bus services 41, 41B, 46X and16A that will take you into town and these run frequently although they take longer they are cheaper at € 1.80. These buses also leave from just outside the door to the left.

Note: The 41 and 41B also go to Swords away from the city and these depart at the same spot but on the far side of the island at the bus stop but if in doubt just ask the driver.

The first bus from the airport is about 6am and the last is about 11.30pm and these are roughly the same start and finish times for all regular bus services in the city Monday and Friday with weekends varying depending upon bus route.
